About MSgt Guernsey

As the Wing NCO Advisor, Master Sergeant Shane Guernsey works closely with the Command NCO, assisting in the decision-making process, as appropriate, on technical, operational and organizational issues, promotes NCO mentorship of cadets and officers within the wing, assists NCOs and commanders in the areas of NCO education, promotion and uniform wear, and advocates for recruitment and retention of the NCO Corps.

MSgt Guernsey enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1994 as a Combat Engineer. During his active duty service he graduated from Sapper Leadership Course, was deployed to former Yugoslavia in support of Operation Joint Endeavor, and participated in the joint mobilization exercise FOAL Eagle in South Korea. After his active duty service he served in the Reserve component as a Postal Clerk and attended Southern Illinois University where he earned a Philosophy Major. He is currently employed as an Armed Security Professional.

MSgt Guernsey joined Civil Air Patrol in 2010 as a Senior Member at the Springfield Composite Squadron. After the reorganization and expansion of the CAP NCO Corps, he left the grade of captain to become a staff sergeant and progressed to his current grade of master sergeant.

During his time in Civil Air Patrol he worked with Cadet Programs by serving as Squadron Deputy Commander for Cadets, instructing at Regional Cadet Leadership Schools, and served several years on staff of the Illinois Wing Summer Encampment as Advanced Training School Commander and Commandant of Cadets. He also served in Emergency Services as a Squadron ESO, attended Hawk Mountain and NESA air school, and participating in ground teams.
