PAO and PIO Training

Training for Public Affairs (PAO) and Public Information Officers (PIO)

What's the difference? PAOs are in the units and are vital to Recruiting and Retention. PIOs can participate in missions and are vital to "getting the word out" to inform the public about the extremely important work we do in support of our communities, state, and nation. PIOs have specific Incident Command System courses that PAOs don't need but could certainly use.

Wing, Group, and Squadron Public Affairs Officers are encouraged to seek mentors throughout their development. If you would like a mentor, go to the Civil Air Patrol Mentoring Web Page. If you would like a "local" mentor, please contact the ILWG PAO.  The next Illinois Wing “online” PAO course is under development. Additionally, NHQ offers mentoring for Emergency Services Specialties, including PIO.
