PAO and PIO Training
Training for Public Affairs (PAO) and Public Information Officers (PIO)
What's the difference? PAOs are in the units and are vital to Recruiting and Retention. PIOs can participate in missions and are vital in "getting the word out" to inform the public of the extremely important things we do in support of our communities, state, and nation. PIOs have some specific ICS courses PAOs don't need but certainly could use.
Wing, Group, and Squadron Public Affairs Officers are encouraged to seek mentors throughout their development. If you would like a mentor, go to the Civil Air Patrol Mentoring Web Page. If you would like a "local" mentor please contact the ILWG PAO. Training requests for the next “online” PAO course may be submitted to PA@ilwg.cap.gov which are held twice a year with each course lasting 5 hours with three hours of digital project homework. (This program is under redevelopment). Additionally, NHQ offers an outstanding resource during the Annual Conference – The PAO Academy is the best way to learn among your peers.
